Created to mark the 5th anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire disaster.
The 3.5-meter-high sculpture consists of 9,168 matchboxes containing a total of 293,368 matches - one match for every pound saved by switching to cheaper, more flammable aluminium cladding. The artwork is designed to be too dangerous to exhibit to the public without a fire warden present.
The piece encourages the viewer to ask themselves, “if my safety in this space is assured, why were those in Grenfell Tower not afforded the same consideration?”.
